The screen porch remodel continues……

This is my least favorite PITA area by my screen porch. I have decided to use up all my red brick and lay a ‘patio’ area for my grills to set on. I’m going from the front corner post (by spade) and making it rectangluar. I’m thinking of using the broken brick I have and making it a rounded corner.screen porch remodel continues a
Just another photo of the ‘mess.’

I have my front edge dug here. I pulled crab grass roots and Creepy Charlie till I was blue in the face. Yes, I’ll be cutting/digging out the berry bush too. Some of the brick is stacked under the stairs.

I’ve sloped it away from the house. Broke up the big chunks of soil. Then I dug a trench along that front edge. I will lay a row of brick level with the lawn so I can just run the mower around it without having to figure out if my weed whacker works. I did the same with my fire pit. No trimming needed.

I had bought 3 packages of landscape fabric. I just laid one out last night and weighted it down to see the size. I cannot believe the piece is a perfect size. I’ll be doubling it up tho.

And I have a crapton of sand I took from the basement stairs… (I’ll find a photo later. I think it is on the home computer.) I took 17 wheel barrel loads out of the stairwell so we could use it. I saved 6 or 8 pails of it to use for this. I’m sure it won’t be enough but I know where to get more. I have all the brick left from the back door remodel (see below) and I can kill two birds back door walls and doors.jpg
with one stone. That pile gets cleaned up too!!! lol

Damn I’ll be so happy when all this gets done!!!

I AM productive Jim!

This is my screen porch. Between the weather and that damn cat, all the screens on these two sides were ripped, torn, and did nothing to keep the bugs out.

screen porch remodel 1So I had my son in law set up the scaffolding a couple months ago it seems. Gary and I put the boards on and started tearing into this on Friday after work. We got all the slats and screen off. Here I am trying to pull out nails that pulled through the slats. So I have to go to Menard’s and buy new slats and paint them.screen porch remodel 2
Here I am using my favorite jackknife to pull out the staples. When Nick and I re-did this screening in 2007, we pulled HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of staples out. This time I’ll only have a hundred or so. I really should paint the frames again and I just don’t have the ambition to do it. Anyone want to help?

It’s almost the end of August and I have yet to sit out here and have breakfast. Usually by now, I’ve been out there every weekend.

I haven’t had a bonfire yet either.

I am REALLY slipping!!

Adrienne Willis and Paul Flanner are both emotionally broken people. Adrienne is separated from her husband, Jack Willis, because of his infidelity. Their children, Amanda and Danny Willis, who live primarily with Adrienne, want their parents to get back together. Amanda, not knowing the true causes, blames the situation on her mother. Jack wants to reconcile with Adrienne, but she’s not sure that she either can trust him or loves him anymore, and she doesn’t want to reconcile solely for her children’s sakes. Jack tries to manipulate the situation which further places a wedge between Adrienne and Amanda. Paul Flanner is a well respected surgeon who deals with his patients primarily on a clinical rather than humanistic level. One of his patients, Jill Torrelson, dies on the operating room table in what was a routine and primarily cosmetic procedure. Paul never did face Jill’s husband, Robert Torrelson, directly about the matter, Robert who has filed a wrongful death suit against Paul, despite the death seemingly not being caused by anything that Paul did. Paul’s approach to doctoring goes against that of his grown son, Mark Flanner, a doctor himself who is working in a remote facility in the mountains of Ecuador. Adrienne and Paul meet when Paul travels to Rodanthe, off the coast of North Carolina, and is the only current guest at the inn which Adrienne is managing temporarily for her best friend Jean, who is taking some personal time away. Paul’s trip to Rodanthe was on the request of Robert to meet, Rodanthe where the Torrelsons live. Adrienne and Paul end up fulfilling much that is missing in the other’s life. Regardless of if there is a long term future for Adrienne and Paul together, their encounter at least re-energizes their lives and helps them deal with the current issues which they are facing.
